Video shows off foursquare for BlackBerry 10

BlackBerry’s completely new operating system, BlackBerry 10, is set to come out early next year. Fans are hoping the new version has what it takes to reverse years of decline for BlackBerry in the face of competition from iOS and Android.

Last week, at their annual BlackBerry Jam conference for developers, BlackBerry announced that foursquare would be one of the apps available when BlackBerry 10 launches (along with other heavy hitters Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn). Foursquare’s BlackBerry lead, Pete Nofelt, made brief appearance on stage to show off the app. The video above is an interview completed shortly after he spoke.

In its current state, the foursquare app for BlackBerry 10 very closely resembles their apps for iOS and Android, but also includes some interface elements unique to BlackBerry 10, like the sliding screens that let you peek at the previous page. Like the current app,  it has support for BBM, with a switch built in alongside those for Facebook and Twitter.

Nofelt said they’d been working on the app for about three weeks and had already come a long way toward getting it ported over. He also said that development for previous versions of BlackBerry is still ongoing, with “one or two big releases coming out soon… and some really neat stuff that’s unique to BlackBerry that will also be seen in BB 10.”
